The Birth of Safari Oil

The Birth of Safari Oil

Safari Oil began with a death, a safari, and the realization that nothing I owned could survive the wilderness.

Years ago, my cousin died. We were close growing up, and losing her felt like the floor dropping out from under me. I was fortunate enough to take a month and went to Africa to visit my aunt, to celebrate my cousin’s life, and to feel something other than the grief.

While I was there, we went on safari.

We couldn’t take much with us. Weight limits, dust, heat, sun, humidity, long drives, and the constant awareness of wildlife means triaging every item packed. Heavily fragranced products that might attract wildlife are not allowed. Complicated routines take up too much space for small planes, and time before meeting at sunrise in the morning. All items must be sun-safe, insect-safe, wildlife-safe, minimal, lightweight, and resilient.

I realized: nothing in my usual skincare routine fit the environment.

Sun, sweat, dust, and humidity, none of my usual barrier buffers or gentle actives.

My skin suffered for it.

That was the first spark.

The real shift happened after a long season of breakups, betrayals, and ending friendships that fit suspiciously closely with a Pluto return cycle. From the ash of an old life, I was rebuilding who I was.

A reset called to me.

So I booked a five-week solo trip to Costa Rica to thrive in nature and meet more likeminded wanderers.

Costa Rica’s biodiversity brought similar challenges to those on African Safari: reefs, insects, heat, humidity. Traditional chemical repellents made me sick, and I didn’t have space for my 12-step skincare routine.

I had been making formulas for years and knew what I needed to do.

I decided to create a product just for myself:

An all-in-one serum-oil that would work in sun, heat, humidity, and travel with clinically effective benefits and next generation plant actives, kind to wild life and plane weight limits. Something that felt luxurious to us, but left no trace in the wild. Something that could replace my entire routine — scalp, face, body, and hair — stay gentle on my sensitive skin, but still deliver glow, collagen support, and protection at clinical strength.

The first version of Safari Oil had THDA, Bakuchiol, Peptides, Bisabolol, and a botanical blend with naturally insect and skin protective properties.

It wasn’t perfect — but it worked.

For me. Friends. Strangers.

It soothed bites and sores, inflamed skin and post burn. It gave skin a glow that looked like it came from within. It hydrated deeply but sank in instantly — no grease, no pilling under makeup. Insects who typically loved me were nowhere to be found.

I thought women would be the main audience, but men loved it too — European and Latin American men with real skincare routines lit up when they tried it at beach resorts and events.

They said:

  • “It sinks in instantly.”
  • “I hate when oils feel greasy — this doesn’t.”
  • “You smell amazing — what is that?”
  • “I’d buy this.”

And that’s when I realized:

Safari Oil isn’t just skincare for people going on adventures or simplifying complicated routines.

It’s unisex. It’s elemental. It’s functional.

It’s for people who take care of themselves, the environment, and the communities around them.

People who tried it instantly felt the luxury of it — the sensation of being gently held, hydrated, and supported in a single step.

When I came home, I refined it. I removed sensitizing essential oils and rebuilt the formula with delicate, skin-loving, sensitive and nature-safe extracts — creating what became the Auric Vitae Complex™.

Every botanical in Auric Vitae was chosen for three things: sun safety, skincare efficacy, and emotional resonance. Lotus to protect the skin barrier and support collagen pathways. Soft woods like Hinoki, Cedar, and Copaiba to calm inflammation and ground the nervous system. Bright green notes like Litsea and Catnip to support circulation and mental clarity. Together, these botanicals create a naturally protective aromatic profile — one that research suggests may be less attractive to certain insects, while remaining gentle and grounding to you.

I didn’t just want something that worked. I wanted something that held you — that helped your skin rebuild while your spirit did the same, and thrived with you once you did. Something that offered relief, calm, and clarity when everything else felt uncertain, and celebration when life was amazing again.

We streamlined sourcing, added CoQ10 for mitochondrial protection, and perfected the balance between clinical performance and botanical wisdom. After testing with friends, family, and early customers, the formula became what it is now: a next-generation active treatment more potent than traditional routines, with zero irritation. Clinical efficacy meets botanical wisdom. Bounce, glow, collagen support — and a thriving, grounded mentality.

And that’s when Safari Oil truly became what it is now:

A clinical botanical treatment oil designed for resilient skin and spirit that lives in the real world — in sun, heat, travel, sweat, movement, adventure, minimalist routines, and life transition.

Safari Oil is for:

Travelers. Minimalists. Adventurers. Healers.

People in rebirth. People who’ve been through something.

People who want glow without complication.

Resilience without irritation. Protection, during adventure.

Calm during storms.

One step. No compromise.

Safari Oil was born from grief, travel, heat, dust, sun, sweat, insects, heartbreak, healing, and rediscovery.
